Teaching Peace is a not-for-profit organization that was created in 1994 by Beverly Title and Lana Leonard. In 1999 Jennifer Brown became the financial officer for Teaching Peace. Summer Deaton, Beverly's daughter, joined the organization 2003. Summer came to us from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office where she was the director of their restorative justice program.
In 2004 Teaching Peace is celebrating its tenth anniversary as a not-for-profit that has, in this short time, gained a considerable reputation for excellence as evidenced by the awards that have been given to our founders. Title was named the "1995 Boulder County Prevention Person of the Year" for her work with at-risk youth, and she received the 1999 Colorado Peace Builder of the Year Award. In 2001 she was honored with the Virginia Mackey Award for Leadership in Restorative Justice. Ms. Leonard is an author, educator and storyteller. She was selected in 1998 for a 9 Who Care Award by Channel 9 for her work on the Clearview Educational Center.
